A guess who game with monsters.

  • Public: children and young teenagers
  • Language level: beginners

    • Revise the names of body parts.
    • Practice forming simple questions using adjectives, numbers, and Have you got…?

This is a setup to play a guess who game with your student using the playingcards.io platform. The characters are designed to keep the vocabulary simple.

First, like in a classical guess who game, each player picks a random character (from the deck on the bottom left). Of course you can also let your student go through the characters to choose one they like.

Then you ask the other player Y/N questions to try to guess what character they’ve chosen, like “Have you got long arms?” (or “Has your monster got long arms?”). You can flip the cards to dismiss the characters that don’t match the answers until only one remains.

If you want to play face-to-face you will need two devices (e.g. a phone + a tablet), but you could also play on the same device this way: first you are the guesser while your student chooses a character (and memorizes it). Then you ask the questions and flip the cards. You can count the number of questions you ask. After you’ve found your student’s character, you can switch roles and tell your student that his goal is to find your monster by asking less questions than you.
